USA Triathlon today announced the 2012 Duathletes of the Year, a group comprised of the nation's top age group, junior and elite duathletes. This honor, presented by Garmin, is awarded annually by USA Triathlon's Age Group Committee, following nominations by the Duathlon Committee.

"We had a terrific group of Duathlete of the Year candidates. The selection process was challenging due to the outstanding performances of the candidates in all age groups," said Steve Sutherland, chair of the USA Triathlon Age Group Committee Athlete of the Year Subcommittee. "It is with great pleasure that we congratulate all of the awardees and look forward to their continued excellence in performance throughout 2013."

Patrick Parish (Bloomington, Minn.) and Gail Kattouf (Greenville, S.C.), the overall winners at USA Triathlon's 2012 Duathlon National Championships, claimed the Duathlete of the Year titles. Parish topped the podium at the Apple Duathlon, where he also set a course record, and was the first amateur finisher at the Gear West Duathlon. Kattouf, who earned this honor for the second straight year, was second in her age group and fourth overall at the ITU Duathlon World Championships.

Dave Slavinski (Point Pleasant, N.J.) is a repeat winner for Masters Duathlete of the Year and is joined by women's honoree Kirsten Chapman (Edmond, Okla.). Slavinski was third overall and the first masters finisher at Duathlon Nationals, and was the first amateur finisher at the Blackwater Duathlon, which served as the Long Course Duathlon National Championships. Chapman was also the first masters finisher at Duathlon Nationals and placed second overall. She finished third in her age group at ITU Duathlon Worlds.

Grand Masters Duathlete of the Year honors were awarded to Walt Rider (Germantown, Tenn.) and Corinna Goodman (Oro Valley, Ariz.). Rider won the 60-64 age group at USA Triathlon Duathlon Nationals and the Blackwater Duathlon. Goodman was victorious in the 70-74 age group at both USA Triathlon Duathlon Nationals and ITU Duathlon Worlds.

Junior duathletes Alistair Eeckman (Berkeley, Calif.) and Colleen Sands (Princeton, Mass.) were also recognized for their 2012 accomplishments, finishing the season as the top ranked athletes in their age groups. Eeckman was the first overall finisher at the Golden Gate Duathlon and the Du the Bears Du. Sands won the Just Du It Du and topped the podium in her age group at the Wrentham Du, while finishing sixth overall.

Elites Dan Hedgecock (Minneapolis, Minn.) and D'Ann Arthur (Dallas, Texas) round out the 2012 award season with Elite Duathlete of the Year accolades. Hedgecock and Arthur were the winners of the USA Triathlon Elite Duathlon National Championships, held in conjunction with Powerman Alabama.
