The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), in partnership with GEICO, is offering a 15 percent discount for all Active Duty and Reserve military members registering for the 38th MCM that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27. The registration discount will be available online starting at noon Eastern on Feb. 23 at www.marinemarathon.com with the savings continuing through midnight EST on March 24. Military members registering during this four-week period will pay $84.15, rather than the full registration cost of $99.
The 15 percent discount available through GEICO echoes the company’s slogan, “15 minutes could save you 15 percent or more on car insurance” and marks the fourth year the insurance company has teamed with the MCM on this early access offer. Last year, 5,979 members of the military registered for the MCM through this special program.
“We are very proud of the fact that our military heritage dates back over 75 years when we opened our doors providing affordable auto insurance to enlisted military members,” says Mike Baker, Director of GEICO’S Military Department. “We are also very proud of the relationship we have with the Marine Corps Marathon, this is always truly a great event for us.”
The MCM has selected Feb. 23 to begin the military discount because of its great significance to the Marine Corps. Sixty eight years ago, five Marines and a U.S. Navy Corpsman raised the America flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.
“The Marine Corps Marathon is pleased to partner with GEICO offering registration savings to Active Duty and Reservists on the date that is symbolic for all U.S. Marines,” says Rick Nealis, MCM Director. “The discount benefits all those serving in the U.S. and overseas who are protecting our freedoms today.”
The 38th MCM will open for public registration at noon EST on March 27 at www.marinemarathon.com. In 2012, the MCM sold all available entries in a record 2 hours, 41 minutes, setting a record for the fastest marathon registration sell out.
