Ed Swiatocha: a fixture on the D/FW Metroplex running scene
April 1, 2003

by Harry Hall

This is a continuation of the "This Run's for You" coverage in the April 2003 issue of Inside Texas Running. This event was organized to help offset some of the hospital costs for Ed Swiatocha and his family. His wife and two children were injured in an automobile accident. For a complete recap of all the that event, pick up a copy of that issue.

Ed Swiatocha won the White Rock Marathon in 1985 (setting a 2:17 PR) and 86, and the Cowtown Marathon in '87. He qualified for the US Olympic Marathon Trials in 1988. He has owned two running specialty stores, and currently works for Lukes.

Additionally, he has helped literally hundreds of runners improve and introduced many others to running. He has been a frequent sight at finish lines, especially at many of James Thruston's races.

"Ed deserves our support," says Mel Cyrak, who spearheaded the drive to organize the "This Run's For You 5K," a benefit run for the Swiatocha family who are recovering from a drunk driving accident last December, "his enthusiasm for running is a rare blessing."
