Texas Ultra Roundup (TUR) Mission Statement: To promote the
great sport of ultrarunning in the state of Texas, by
encouraging participation in Texas ultras. Also, to foster
competition and camaraderie between athletes and enjoyment of
the various ultra race formats.
Join Team Texas!
What is Team Texas? It is you, the Texas ultrarunner.
Friendly state versus state competition has happened at ultras
around the country, with mighty Team Texas often leading the
way. Starting at the 1999 Arkansas Traveller 100, Team Texas
began fielding a team against all comers from other states.
Before your next out-of-state ultra, find out what other Lone
Star State residents are running, draft rules of competition,
and put out the challenge!
Series Rules
1. All runners must register to take part in TUR.
Membership is for January 1-December 31. Points will be counted
only for races run after registration. All memberships expire
on December 31, regardless of the entry date.
2. There is no registration fee. There will also be no
awards, just bragging rights as big as Texas.
3. The results of all ultradistance runs of 50 kilometers or
longer or any timed run held in the state of Texas are eligible
for scoring in TUR. For points to count toward your total for
the year, you must complete the entire race distance, within the
time allotted by the race director (i.e. as an official
finisher), or complete at least 50 kilometers in any timed event.
4. Entrants need not be residents of Texas.
5. All ultras are under the control and direction of the
individual race directors. Each race is a separate and stand-
alone event. TUR has no involvement with them and assumes no
liability for anything that may happen to you during or as a
result of taking part in any race. Each race director
determines their own entry fee, rules, race date, number of
entries allowed, cut off times, and other policies, and each
runner is responsible for complying with those requirements.
The decisions of each race director are final.
6. All disputes regarding series scoring will be resolved by
TUR management, whose decision is final.
7. Points will be awarded after publication of race results
in Inside Texas Running magazine (www.insidetexasrunning.com).
Inside Texas Running is the official promoter and source of
information for TUR, and will publish standings and other
information throughout the year. Results provided by the race
director are also acceptable, but it will be your responsibility
to provide this to TUR management. You must let me know which
races you have run. It is also your responsibility to resolve
any disputes regarding finishing results with the appropriate
race director. You are encouraged to make sure that you
understand cut off times, course markings, etc. for all races.
8. A maximum of six (6) races will be allowed to count
toward the point total. 100 bonus points will be awarded to all
runners who officially finish at least one race of 50
kilometers, 50 miles, 100 kilometers, 100 miles, and 24 or 48
hours. 50 bonus points will be awarded for officially finishing
four of the five event types. Also, Inside Texas Running will
give complimentary one-year subscriptions to TUR participants
who officially complete six of more Texas ultras during the year.
9. Scoring for each race:
Each event winner gets 100 points. All subsequent official
finishers will earn points using this formula: (winner's time
divided by individual's time) x 100 or, for a timed run,
(individual's distance divided by winner's distance) x 100.
Example 1: A TUR participant wins the race. He or she is
awarded 100 points.
Example 2: A 100 miler is won in 16 hours. A TUR runner
finishes in 20 hours. He/she gets (16/20) x 100=80 points.
Example 3: The winner of a 24-hour covers 110 miles. The TUR
contestant does 90. 82 points are earned.
All fractional points will be rounded down.
10. All official finishers of each race will be considered.
That is, if the first TUR participant to finish a race does not
win the race, he or she will not get the 100 victory points.
11. For ultras having multiple distances, if official
results are reported for more than one distance, the longer or
longest will be used. For example, if a race reports both 50k
and 50 mile finish times for participants, only the 50 mile will
be scored for TUR. If you want credit for the 50k, only run 50k.
12. Ties will be broken by head-to-head results in Texas
ultras. If this does not break the tie, aggregate times for all
head-to-head runs will be compared. If the tie still remains,
it will stand and Co-winners will be declared.
13. Separate accounting and standings will be kept for men
and women, and the persons with the most points will be declared
the winners. Special recognition will be given to the runner
who accumulates the most official miles in Texas ultras for the
year.
