New this year: Centipede Drawings, and Participation Awards!

The HEB Bayou City Classic 10K comes to the streets of downtown Houston on Saturday, March 12, at 7:50 a.m. for the 27th year. Mayor White and Lisa Foronda will start and run in the event, which will be led by an entertaining array of Art Cars, walkers, joggers, wheelchairs and party animals. The party animals will be in the form of centipedes (at least six attached persons in costume) and individuals in costumes. Music and entertainment all along the course make the 6.2 miles fly by, and then the real party begins with more terrific music and a hearty breakfast buffet on the steps of City Hall in Hermann Square. Get fit, have fun, and help support fitness improvements in our Houston Parks all in one great morning!

Along with music, great food and door prizes at the post event party, title sponsor HEB will award 10 $100 gift cards by random drawing to members of Centipede teams and individual costume participants, so plan your theme and costume now! Go to www.bayoucityclassic.org for Centipede categories and info.

A Corporate Award, the coveted Croc Cup, and bragging rights go to the company that has the most employees participate in the event, so pass the word to HR at your company. And in recognition of City involvement this year, there will be a special award presented to the City of Houston department with the most employee participants. Now that is something for everyone!

HEB Bayou City Classic 10K proceeds benefit Houston parks. This community event of fun and fitness is brought to you by the Houston Area Road Runners Association, the Mayor's Office of Special Events and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and is generously sponsored by HEB, and a host of fine businesses supporting fitness, fun and our city parks. The event is part of the Mayor's Get Moving Houston physical fitness challenge to increase health and fitness awareness. For more info on the Challenge go to www.getmovinghouston.org.
