It's Party Time again for the HEB Bayou City Classic 10K!
Bubba's Sports Bar and Grill, 6225 Washington Avenue, just east
of Memorial Park, is hosting a registration party for the HEB
Bayou City Classic 10K this Thursday evening, February 27, from
5 pm to 8 pm. Register for the race and receive a free beverage
and happy hour snacks. Early registration prices of $15 for
HARRA members and $17 for non-HARRA members will be in effect at
the party. Race date is March 8, starting and finishing near
City Hall in Downtown Houston. For information on how to be an invited runner to the race, run
to the web at www.bayoucityclassic.org. Registration for the HEB Bayou City Classic 10K makes you
eligible to participate in the 2003 Texas 10K Challenge,
consisting of both a City Challenge and an Individual
Challenge. Run for fun, top awards, or bragging rights, and
receive a commemorative participation award, great prizes, and
the opportunity to see Texas in your tennies and enjoy some of
the best events on offer in the Great State. The City Challenge is forecast to win bragging rights for
Houston, which no doubt will win this category with ease! The
top 3 men and top 3 women (may include age-graded masters
runners) from the same city will have their times combined for
each of the challenge events, with the lowest combined time for
all Challenge events winning overall. It isn't mandatory that
the top 3 men and women be the same at each event, but the city
must be represented by 3 male and 3 female registered Challenge
participants at each of the designated events. All HARRA
members, regardless of address, will be considered to be running
for Houston. Otherwise all City Challenge participants will be
designated by their local addresses. The winning city team will
receive commemorative individual awards, as well as the Fastest
City in Texas accolade, and be announced in Inside Texas
Running/Runner Triathlete News at the end of the 2003
Challenge. The Individual Challenge participants must finish all designated
Challenge events within the calendar year 2003. All 10K runners
in the Challenge will be placed into a ranking to be published
by Inside Texas Running/Runner Triathlete News. All
Challenge finishers will receive a commemorative participation
award, and be entered into the Challenge lottery for great
prizes. The Texas 10K Challenge begins with the HEB Bayou City Classic
10K. All participants must be official finishers of this first
event to be eligible for the Challenge. Participants for both
City and Individual Challenge must have their names listed in
the results of each of the Challenge races, and must be entered
in the competitive division of each event. This means that if a
timing chip is offered as an option at an event, you must elect
to wear the chip to be in the official results. Send results
and website link for race results to the HEB Bayou City Classic
10K website www.bayoucityclassic.org, or mail to 9019 Briar
Forest Drive, Houston TX 77024 to be entered into the challenge. 2003 Texas 10K Challenge Events:
