Kerron Clement has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after running 49.77 to win the young men's 400H race at the 2002 USATF Junior Olympic Championships in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday. His time bettered the young men's national record of 2000 Olympic 400H gold medalist Angelo Taylor, who ran 50.27 in July 1997 in Baton Rouge, La.

A Houston native, Clement edged out U.S. high school record holder and 2002 World Juniors double medalist Kenneth Ferguson for the win in Omaha. In the young men's 110H, Clement finished fifth in 14.26.

Clement was named the 2002 Verizon Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet at the 2002 USATF Youth Athletic Championships in Miami, Fla., after winning both the 110H and 400H. Clement runs for the Wings Track Club in Houston.
