In 1975 when Bill Rodgers (pictured) first astonished the world with his running skills, Milena Glusax thrilled her family by being born. In 2001, she emerged on the running scene as a three-event American national champion, and he continued to race and win. On February 23, 2002, they will bring their combined experience and expertise to Fort Worth to participate in Cowtown Marathon events and activities.

"We are very excited to be able to bring these two talented guest runners to Fort Worth to showcase the past, present, and future of the sport of road racing," said Jim Gilliland, Cowtown Marathon race director.

Glusac, from Fallbrook, California, most recently made her marathon debut in New York with a time of 2:34. In August of 2001 she won both the USA Half Marathon championship (1:12:13) and became the fourth fastest American all-time while winning the USA 20K crown (1:07:49). In addition, she ran 1:26:05 to claim the national 25K title. Glusac is expected to compete in the Cowtown 10K event.

Ever popular with runners across the nation, Rodgers will be making his sixth appearance as a celebrity guest at Cowtown. He has won both the Boston and New York Marathons four times each and was a member of the 1976 U.S. Olympic team. In 2001 he consistently maintained a pace averaging 5:30 per mile as he picked up masters titles in Jacksonville (15K), Richmond (5 mile), and at the Conoco Rodeo Run (10K). He is expected to compete in the Cowtown 5K.

The Cowtown Marathon is one of the nation's largest multi-event races. For 2002, the 24th annual running of the event, it is expected to attract more than 14,000 runners. Events include a full marathon, marathon relay, 10K with a wheelchair category, and a 5K run. All races begin and end in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Celebrity runners Milena Glusac and Bill Rodgers are brought to Fort Worth through the generosity of American Airlines and the Osteopathic Health System of Texas. They will be available for autographs and interviews at the pre- race pasta dinner, Friday, February 22, and at the awards ceremony following the race, Saturday, February 23.

For more information on how to enter or volunteer for the races, call the Cowtown Marathon office at (817) 735-2033 or visit the web site at www.cowtownmarathon.org.
