2001
World Indoor 60m
champion and Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell. Also
scheduled to
compete is Olympic bronze medalist Obadele Thompson of Barbados
and
Americans J.J. Johnson, ranked No. 7 in the world in 2001 by
Track & Field
News magazine, and Shawn Crawford, ranked No. 8 in the U.S.,
winner of the
Verizon Millrose Games, and 2001 World Indoor Champion at 200m.
60mh: Dominique Arnold, unattached; Mark Crear, God
Speed; Dudley Dorival
(HAI); Allen Johnson, Nike; Dan O'Brien, unattached; Terry
Reese; Larry
Wade, Nike; Adrian Woodley (CAN).
The Scoop: Larry Wade, last weekend's winner at the
Verizon
Millrose Games,
is in a field that includes three-time outdoor world champion
Allen Johnson,
Dudley Dorival of Haiti, ranked No. 4 in the world in 2001 by
T&FN, and Dan
O'Brien, Olympic decathlon champion in 1996. They join Mark
Crear, Dominique
Arnold, Larry Wade, and Terry Reese, in one of the strongest
indoor fields
assembled in America in recent years.
800m: Daniel Caulfield (IRE); David Kiptoo (KEN);
David
Krummenacker,
adidas; Derrick Peterson, adidas; Bryan Woodward, Nike Farm Team.
The Scoop: Leading the field in the 800 is newly-
minted
American 1000m
record holder, David Krummenacker, who was ranked No. 1 in the
United States
at two-laps by Track & Field News magazine in 2001. Two weekends
ago Boston,
Krummenacker broke the 13-year-old indoor AR in the 1000m with
his
impressive 2:17.85 win. He also won the 800m at the Verizon
Millrose Games.
Krummenacker will be challenged in Lincoln by Americans Derrick

Olympian Bryan
Woodward, along with Kenyan standout David Kiptoo.

Charlie Gruber; James
Karanu (KEN); Gary Hamer; Bernard Lagat (KEN); Jason Lunn,
unattached; Jason
Pyrah, Nike; Michael Stember, Nike; Carlos Suarez-Gonzalez
(ESP); Kevin
Sullivan (CAN).
The Scoop: In the men's mile, Olympic and World

then was nipped
at the tape by Kenyan countryman Laban Rotich at the Verizon
Millrose Games
in New York, 3:57.04 to 3:57.36. Both will race in Lincoln,
along with
Canadian record holder Kevin Sullivan (3:55.80 at Boston), and
top Americans
Seneca Lassiter and Michael Stember. With an arena record of
4:00.46 and
$5000 in bonus money, a tough international field will likely
battle for a
win in this event and a chance at the prize money that the meet
organizers
will pay to the winner if he breaks the 4-minute barrier.

Audrey Borodkin (UKR);
John Davis, Santa Monica TC; Steve Ercegvac (SLO); Reese Hoffa,

American),
added to a group that includes Olympic silver medalist Adam
Nelson, and the
farthest thrower in the world last year, Janus Robberts of South
Africa.
Pole Vault: Russ Buller, Asics; Chad Harting, Mizuno;
Jeff Hartwig, Nike;
Tye Harvey, New Balance; Lawrence Johnson, adidas; TJ Kloster;

The Scoop: In the Visa men's pole vault at Nebraska,
outdoor American record
holder Jeff Hartwig looks to win his third straight GST
competition
following wins in Boston (5.70 meters/18 feet, 8.25 inches) and
New York
(5.37m/19-3). At the Verizon Millrose Games, Hartwig set a new
meet record,
defeating indoor American record holder Lawrence Johnson and
NCAA champion
Derek Miles, who both cleared 5.70m/18-8.25. The Devaney Center
record is
5.69m/18-8 is likely to fall with all three athletes scheduled
to compete in
Lincoln.

Cherry,
Nike; Vonette Dixon
(JAM); Lacena Golding-Clarke (JAM); Bisa Grant; Miesha McKelvy,
Nike; Donica
Merriman, unattached; Alesha Peel, Pioneer TC.
The Scoop: American Miesha McKelvy defeated a top
field
in the Verizon
Millrose Games in 8.04, while Jamaican Lacena Golding-Clarke set
a
world-leading mark of 7.88 at a meet held last weekend in
Stuttgart,
Germany. Jenny Adams, ranked No. 3 in the world last year by

Track & Field
News and second to Regina Jacobs at Millrose, American Sarah

and former
U.S. national champion Stephanie Best.
High Jump: Amy Acuff, Asics; Erin Aldrich,
unattached;
Karol Damon, Nike;
Nicole Forrester (CAN); Stacy-Ann Grant; Carri Long, Invaders.
The Scoop: Call it a preview of the national indoor
championships: besides
No. 1 American Amy Acuff, the field includes No. 2 Erin Aldrich,
No. 3 Stacy
Ann Grant, No. 4 Karol Damon, and No. 5 Carri Long.
