Updated Children's Running booklet educates kids & parents
August 30, 2001
The Road Runners Club of America announced recently that its
classic booklet "Children's Running -- A Guide for Parents and
Kids," written by Don Kardong and Jim Ferstle, has been updated
with a new, fresh format.Freddi Carlip, RRCA president says, "The RRCA is a leader in
children's running and fitness. This newest edition
of "Children's Running" remains a valuable tool for the
promotion of healthier, more fit children through running. We
hope that many of our clubs and the public will order it and
distribute it in their local communities." The children's running booklet is one of the many ways the RRCA
continues its commitment to provide educational materials on
running to parents and pre-teen children ages 9-12. The booklet
should inspire parents to get their kids (and even themselves)
to think running is fun and a way to get fit as well. "Running
is a naturla way of exercising for kids," said Henley Gabeau,
RRCA Executive Director. "And with Diabetes II and obesity very
real problems in American children, the RRCA's updated booklet
should help both the kids and their parents get moving in the
right direction." First published in 1989, over 500,000 copies of "Children's
Running" have been printed and distributed through the network
of RRCA member clubs, the RRCA's Children's Running Development
Programs, Army Youth Services (which purchased 70,000) and to
the public. The children's booklet highlights the RRCA's commitment to it
grassroots running programs which include promoting fitness for
America's children. Individual booklets are $2, and bulk orders
at discounted prices (over 25) are available on request. For
more information, contact the RRCA's national office at
office@rrca.org or (703) 836-0558.
