Hundreds of runners and walkers will take to the street for the
4th Annual Life Change Institute 5K Run/Walk (LCI 5K) on
Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at 7:30 a.m., at 1535 Greensmark
Drive in north Houston. The 3.1-mile route is new, and is USATF
Sanctioned and Distance Certified.
The LCI 5K family event includes a chip timed 5K competitive
run, a non-competitive 5K walk, and divisions for wheelchair
racers, companies, teams, teens, kids and treadmill
participants.
The event benefits Life Change Institute for Men and Women, a
free, 90-day drug rehabilitation program. Both facilities are
501(c)3 organizations.
For the fourth consecutive year, Mayor Bill White has endorsed
the LCI 5K as an official event of the "Get Moving Houston"
wellness initiative. Get Moving Houston Chairman Herb Lipsman
called it, "One of the best organized races in Houston."
Following the competition is the LCI 5K's trademark post-race
celebration and awards ceremony. First-place overall male and
female runners will receive a cash award of $250 and a
beautiful crystal trophy. The top finishers in each division
will receive special trophies.
Post-race festivities also include a nutritious full breakfast,
great door prizes such as a colossal king- sized bed donated by
Furniture Tyme, a large leather sectional sofa donated by
Najjia's Fine Furniture, gift cards, sports apparel and more.
The free Teen and "Kidz" Zones are open from 8:30 a.m. to noon
and are jam-packed with youth-friendly fun such as good food, a
DJ, rock wall climbing, laser tag, basketball, door prizes and
more.
By accessing http://www.newlight.org/5K participants can
register for all of the events. The adult individual entry fees
are $25 and $35 on race day. The "Kidz" K registration fee is
