Course change proves successful for A Little Night Run
May 28, 2002
A Little Night Run resultsThe change of venue for A Little Night Run from downtown Fort
Worth to
Trinity Park proved to be a success for everyone. The runners,
who now have
a flat, fast, out-and-back course, took advantage of the perfect
weather.
Coby Bullard finished in 16:13 for a second consecutive Night
Run men's
title. Keith Johnson, the masters champion, finished 10 seconds
later at
16:23. Chris Bails, who just finished his junior year at
Mansfield high,
finished third. Mitzi Reese, was the winner in the women's
division with a
time of 20:23. New this year was recognition of the more
experienced runners
-- Jack Gray, Lovell Bolle and Barney Barnhill were the top
three finishers
in the 70-74 age group.
All participants in both the 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K Walk/Run were
treated to
ensembles for Youth Orchestra members playing at the starting
lines and along
both courses. At the Shelter Pavilion, two concerts, one before
the 1 Mile
Race and one at 7:30, entertained the crowd of runners, walkers,
family
members of the participants and orchestra. Before the second
concert, Maestro
John Giordano and his wife, Mary Alice, were introduced.
Maestro Giordano
was the first conductor of the Youth Orchestra back in the 60's
and is still
a valiant supporter. Groups of people lined the grassy hill
beyond the
Pavilion and enjoyed treats supplied by the generous
supporters. Later in
the evening the Kids Area was still buzzing with activity -- the
games were a
special hit, as were the talents of two clowns, one who made
balloon animals
and one who did wonderful face painting.
