Tim Seaman has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of
the Week after posting an American record in the men's 5 km race
walk Saturday at the San Diego/Imperial Valley Track & Field
Championships in San Diego, California. The 2003 USA Indoor 5 km race walk champion, Seaman
won the race in 19 minutes, 28.66 seconds bettering two-time
Olympian Curt Clausen's 19:35.2 mark set on March 7, 1999.
Ecuador's Xavier Moreno was second in 19:46.37, followed by the
U.S. Army's John Nunn, who was third in 19:58.34 and Clausen who
placed fourth in 20:36.36. Other notable performances last week include Allyson
Felix's 22.52 mark Saturday to win the girl's 200m at the 85th
California Interscholastic State High School Track and Field
Championships at Cerritos College in the fastest time ever run
at a high school meet. The senior at Los Angeles Baptist High
School bettered the previous prep mark of 22.67 set by Olympic
gold medalist Marion Jones in 1992. Felix also won the state
title in the girl's 100m with a time of 11.29 seconds. Felix
ran the fastest women's 200m time in the world earlier this year
in setting the world junior record of 22.11 on May 3 at the
Banamex Grand Prix meet in Mexico City. Now in its third year, USATF's Athlete of the Week
program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all
levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and
features the athlete on the USATF Web site. Selections are
